Modular Keys Set

A set of modular components that can be stuck together to form different key design combinations.

The initial attempt was actually uniquely unwrapped, its only after a few weeks that I realized there was modular potential in these assets. Since these were originally created for an unannounced Unity project, I had game-readiness in mind while making these components. As a result the whole set is fairly low poly, and makes good use of trim textures in order to achieve their visual effects. For my own use, I will be rolling up the 3 material variants into a large master material - but for general release, it made better sense to have the 3 materials be separated.

The designs were mainly sourced from a bag of old keys that I had found a few months ago, it is unclear what most of them opened but I thought many were interesting enough to model and put to my own uses.

Modelled with Blender, textured in Substance Painter and Photoshop (height drawing), additional batching work in Substance Designer.

Stock components consisting of 17 head designs, 14 types of blades (7 modern, 7 old), and a key ring.

The set is designed with ingame use in mind. The result is a relatively low tri count for just about every stock combination.

The trimsheet material can be used to to texture unique key designs if desired! The above examples have been textured using the same material as stock components.

Combining the different options could potentially lead to cursed designs as seen here.
